 Moon Dance

The Moon shines down
on this mournful eve
when the fairy
who dances alone
must wish upon a star, so far.

The fairy sways to the sweet music
of the waves as they kiss the sea.
The mermaids encircle her,
arms entwined, like a garland of roses,
as the full moon spotlights
her graceful moves.

A gift from the sea
to the star that shines down
Prevailing evermore this eventide
the joining of these two,
in the marriage of Heaven and Earth.

 Darkness carries so much light

If only we can see it
evening brings on thoughts
that only darkness shares.
The every day distractions
gone, no longer blinding us.

As we drift to the surface,
from water to air, we take a breath
suddenly afloat,
and from darkness to light,
we return.

Darkness carries so much light,
if only we can see it.
Only faith brings the torch.
It lights the way eternal,
no longer needing to see.

Only the yearning remains,
as we enter one realm to the next.
Hope in one, truth in the other.
Life taking form,
from faith. And, darkness carries so much light.

 Spirit of Life

This is one of my favorite hymns and I thought that I would post the words, which is why it sends me. Words and music by Carolyn McDade 1935 and copyrighted in 1992 by Unitarian Universalists

Spirit of life
come unto me.
Sing in my heart all the
Stirrings of compassion.

Blow in the wind, rise in the sea,
move in the hand, giving life the shape
of justice.

Roots hold me close; wings set me free;
Spirit of life, come to me, come to me.

 Cockeyed Karma

All right, well things are not all right, but I have not written here for a while and miss talking to you. The wind is howling just like in my last posting and even the horses are in today.

I am in the midst of a Cockeyed Karma, my own and those all around me and I wonder if the wind has anything to do with it. Throwing us all off kilter, so we have to bobble around until it stops blowing. The mood among my friends is all askew, as well. I am sensitive to these shifts and fret to right them. Maybe because I'm a Virgo, I need everything in it's place and all honky dory. The wind is so vocal today, I keep looking out to see if it is a huge truck pulling up to the house. Randy, our fellow blogger once called us a bunch of "granola eating" fellow bloggers, he would laugh as I sit here, between thoughts, munching on fresh soy beans, ritually pulling each from it's pod, popping one into my mouth and one into a dog's. Oh, they are tasty, but it's my new heart healthy diet after the new year. I would rather be munching chips or something naughty.

With moods askew all around me, I tend towards the less mussed among them and they to me, as well. Well, I guess these are the dark days of winter, I have never heard of the dark days of spring, though there are technically a lot of those, but instead "dark" is implying our moods. We all have our techniques to get through, working and music help me to muster through, oh, plus, the minute I spot some sunshine, I dash outside with a reflector. Remember those reflectors we used to hold under our chins in the hope to be a little tan? I can remember standing in my living room window in my teens, in the hope of dashing away my winter pallor. How silly! Some friends become recluse and stop all forms of communication, not me, my lips need to flap to get things off my chest; Some friends ignore it and act like nothing is different; Some embrace winter...God Bless them;
Some go skiing, go figure; Some drink heavily and others pray for them.

Well, I guess I will muddle through stepping over a few carcasses and praying those close get through the dark days and overcome this Cockeyed Karma. This Virgo hopes the sun shines down on you all to make things all "nicey nicey" again.

Miss ya and sending good thoughts your way.

I Love to Hear the Wind Howling

I am really a very grounded earth person. The first time I heard the wind in the big huge pines that graced my back yard in Minnesota, I knew that I had found something that "sends me", and there is no going back, just forward, looking for more and hoping to capture more of this wonderful feeling. It is a primal feeling and it comes to me when I watch the horses gallop in spring temperatures like today. I spent a lot of time today in my art studio in my barn. I have an amazing view of the pastures where they run, and it is only in this odd spring like weather that they take off like the wind.

Tonight, as I write to you, the wind is indeed howling away, but it is still 65 degrees. You see, here on the top of the hill in a little country town outside of Rochester, NY, it is vulnerable to the elements. Today, my gutter expert told me I have roof tiles that have blown off and when we are ready to replace the roof, it will be the right time to do all the wind blown tiles. Duh... The house was built in '86 and it now is time to think about a new roof. Ugh.

I put together a beef stew with tons of garlic and veggies and of course beef and the entire house smells good enough to eat. The Christmas tree, though dry, was beautiful to light until tonight and half the lights are out...it is trying to tell me something.

Next year, I am going to try to find a tree that we can plant, because we have lost a few with the winds here. I love the sound of the winds howling in my windows, but they are treacherous to trees.

So, back to the wind howling, it is amazing isn't it? It makes me want to light a fire, to hunker down, to thank God I have a roof over my head and a protection from the cruel world. I wish you all that amazing feeling of connecting with something bigger than we are, like the wind, that shows us all the time just how small we are in this great big world.

Great Big Bear Hugs,
n.
