 Living Life on the Edge

OK, so picture this scene...
It's a three dog night.
I am comfortably wrapped in whatever blanket
is left, and teetering on the very edge of the right
side of the bed,
My dear husband, is also in a similar predicament
on the left side of the bed...and most happily snoring away,
are our three snuggly Labs in various positions of
repose in the middle and end of the bed.

It is a sight, one can only believe when they see it, but,
if I may, I will take this a few steps further. If you could
only hear the harmony and synchronization of all the different
snores, this too, would send you. It is quite a sound and beautiful
in it's own innocent abandoned. It is the way one feels when singing aloud in the shower, when one thinks the house is empty. Perhaps,
it is a symphony to the sleepers.
When one even snorts, yawns, stretches, groans or flaps one's ears, the entire group shifts and rolls to new positions, groans, yawns, stretches, and oh, yes a snort or two...then back to the rhythmic snoring or breathing, depending on the instrument of choice. Now, to one lying awake, such as myself, I try to roll with the kicks, with the hopes that Menopause will soon be over.

By the time dawn breaks, the symphony has shifted sounds and harmonies at least ten times. The one lab who measures the time is the one delegated Metronome, to jump up and down off the bed to various new positions throughout the night. This is Quinn, the bounder, whom you've all met in "Sheep Dog for Hire". So, as you can see, sleeping is a masterpiece in this family, only achieved by living life on the edge.

Hugs,
Happy Holidays!
Peace,
n.

Well, When it Rains, It Pours

I have got to be careful about my wishing for things, like spring when the winter season has barely gotten underway. This new storm has packed a wallop of snow on us here in W. NY state. It has been a mix of sleet and snow and now it is just snow coming down really heavy.

Thought you all might like a little weather report. Everyone in my family is bored, except my son who has his college roomie here. My husband is sick and not his normal happy self. They are hogging TV's watching the same football games in different rooms. This is why my youngest is bored. She is tired of her room. So she is talking to me while I am trying to write this. Please excuse any typos. She just came back from a run in the snow w/top dog Bailey, the Chocolate Lab, you could just eat, he is so cute. She is now complaining of being sore and she thinks Bailey has gone down for a long winter's nap.

My youngest just left defeated, getting limited responses from me. Oh well. I spent four hours in a cold barn, hauling muck buckets, water buckets, hay and shavings bags...talk about sore! My oldest, who is on my naughty, not nice, list volunteered for some work down there. I am not stupid and jumped at the opportunity. Even though, I told my youngest that I was going to ignore her for a while. Well, she let the poor depressed horses in early. I will go check them in a while and then I have to go to the boss's Christmas party...what a night to have to go out! Yuk! I would like to curl up in front of a warm fire like I did last night, after a very similar day.

Well, I hope you all have a lovely Sunday. Keep warm and stay in if you can, unless, of course, you are in a sunny warm state or state of mind and need the adventure.

Hugs,
n.

I Miss the Sound of Thunder

I love the low guttural sound of a thunder storm
moving in. The sound is gripping.

It is a deep sound, which resounds inside of us, when the storm gets close, the house even shakes.

Snow and thunder never seem to travel in the same crowd. I know when spring is right around the corner when I hear the familiar rumble.

I worry about lightning strikes, but so far the lightning rods on house and barn have held them off. We are a house on a hill, so it is a very windy place too.

Sometimes, I hear what I think is thunder and it is a truck, a plane or a helicopter, or just the wind in the flue.

The sky is a deep slate blue and it is dusk. It looks like a storm, but nothing pours in...not even snow...no thunder today. I am missing spring.

 Lonely Times

The holidays are a cursed time for a lot of people. They either dredge up happier times or they remind you that you are alone and perhaps lonely. I don't even like to shop alone. I try to find a kid to go with me, even if it is the person for whom I am shopping. Surprises mean little to teens now a days. They would prefer something like clothing be the perfect fit, then having it sit in a box until Christmas morning, only to find it has to be returned the next day.

So, for those out there who are not relishing this holiday and may be feeling a bit blue, I want you to know I am thinking about you and sending a prayer your way. Whatever you do, skip the commercials on the television, some are pretty annoying with all the jingly music and fake people, hugging all their new material possessions.

Call an old friend, just to brighten their day, this always helps me feel good. I take a walk, hug a dog or cat and stay out of crowded stores. I also like to watch the old classic Christmas movies.

 snow blankets the field

blankets wrap the horses
a life of privilege
as opposed to the wild

a caged dog
barks
outside it is 20 degrees
he would be better off in
the wild

while we judge others
it is the innocent
that suffer
as we turn a blind
eye

a hunter pulls a trigger,
a driver speeds
an old woman quietly eats her
chicken

a war continues and only the
innocent suffer
blindly

snow blankets the unknown
soldier
evidence is covered, only to be
revealed in a new season

the final judgment
will bring us back to the wild...
