 Moon Dance
Back to Full Blog

The Moon shines down
on this mournful eve
when the fairy
who dances alone
must wish upon a star, so far.

The fairy sways to the sweet music
of the waves as they kiss the sea.
The mermaids encircle her,
arms entwined, like a garland of roses,
as the full moon spotlights
her graceful moves.

A gift from the sea
to the star that shines down
Prevailing evermore this eventide
the joining of these two,
in the marriage of Heaven and Earth.

Beautiful Imagery. My wife and I once lived not far from the beach in Callendar and we'd often walk down in the evening to watch the full moon across the waters of the Bay. During the day the beach would be thronged with people, but in the evening we'd usually have it all to our selves.

Your poem reminded me of that time.

It was inspired by an old friend that still keeps in touch and who used to be my swimming coach...we have water that has seeped into our collective brains from all those years swimming.

Thanks for the compliments.

Didn't know about you and swimming, n.Lynn.

If you don't mind my asking, what kind of swimming did you do?

Explorer, I was a competitive swimmer all my life. I was a county champ when I was 10 years old, unfortunately that was my peak, it was downhill thereafter! I still competed in every stroke butterfly, back, breast and free and the individual medleys into my teens.

Excellent n.lynn!

At least you peaked at something sometime in your life. I'm still waiting.

Although, come to think of it, perhaps sitting around waiting to peak isn't the likeliest route to success?

...And then along comes Man
With what he thinks is a good plan
...And the marriage is quick to slide
Into the ever rising tide

Hey, I never claimed to be a poet!

Ron, No, I didn't write it for a wedding, it would make a nice gift, should I someday be low on funds.
